Founders We Work With

You built a business that works. Customers keep coming back, and people keep telling you to franchise it. Then the questions arrive all at once.

  1. Who writes the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD)?
  2. What share of each owner’s sales should you collect as a royalty?
  3. Who trains an owner in a city you've never worked in?
  4. How do you pay for all of it while royalties are still small?

Each answer takes money or know-how the business doesn't have yet. And you're still running it every day. Some of the help on offer comes from sellers who win at the signing table and disappear before the ribbon cutting. You shouldn't have to choose between staying small and betting everything you've built.

02 · The Odds

Franchising by the Numbers

Three numbers every founder should see before franchising.

18%

Fewer than 18 percent of franchise brands ever reach 100 units (2026).

37%

More than 37 percent of brands that passed 100 franchised units since 2010 now run fewer units than they did at their peak (2026).

35 to 120

Royalties usually start covering the cost of running a franchise system between 35 and 120 open units, and at about 80 for most brands (2026). Brands with 50 or fewer units opened an average of three new locations in 2024.

At about three new locations a year, the climb to 80 takes years. Our model is built for that stretch, with capital ready to deploy when the fit is right.

Years ago I co-founded BODY20 and grew it into a franchise. Along the way I learned that a franchise system is only as strong as the owners inside it, and that's where we start with every brand.

How We Work

We've sat in your chair. We've built, franchised, bought and sold businesses ourselves. Now we build franchise companies with founders, and we stay through the years when royalties are still small.

  • Operator Experience

You work with people who have run a franchise launch themselves. The playbook we hand you is one we've lived.

  • Capital Alongside Yours

Our own capital is ready to deploy when the fit is right. When it isn't, we say so.

  • How We're Paid

A retainer covers getting your brand ready to franchise, and we earn a success fee on each franchise awarded. We judge our work by the health of your system.

  • A System You Keep

A readiness assessment, a multi-year plan, unit economics, an operations playbook and a performance framework. Yours to keep, whatever happens with the partnership.

What we measure

Whether sales at existing locations are growing
  • Average unit volume

  • Sold-to-open ratio
How many awarded franchises actually open
  • Royalty self-sufficiency
When royalties cover the cost of supporting the system
  • Franchisee validation
What your franchisees tell prospective buyers who call them

Brand Evaluation

Stay in one market too long and a weaker brand can take your category. Rush in, or take a deal from a position of weakness, and you risk the business you built. Done right, you stop being the operator who holds everything together and become the franchisor of a national brand.

Start with the Franchise Readiness Check. Twelve statements, about four minutes and an honest read on readiness, including when the answer is not yet.
